Few writers can avoid making the odd mistake here and there. Even literary giants such as Shakespeare, Dickens, etc. were only human. They no doubt checked their work over and over, who knows. Unfortunately, the rest of us have to make do with friends or relatives to point out any mistakes they have made. But even then the likelihood is that the friend himself is no expert so many mistakes will remain.

To be fair, we now have the internet with all kinds of weird and wonderful websites to help us to get it right. They claim to look out for mistakes in spelling, grammar, word flow, everything you could ever need to appear an authority in your field of expertise, e.g. spellcheckers, grammar, capitalisation. Many of us use them and are satisfied with the result. After all, they’re devised by experts.

Actually that’s not true. They can indeed improve our writing and often spot glaring errors that you missed. But they cannot comment on writing style, give opinions on long drawn out sentences, point out words spelt correctly but not in the right pace, indicate run-on sentences, the list goes on.
